Police officer
Police officers are vital to the safety of communities across
the country and here in Suffolk. Their role is the key rank in the
police service as nearly three quarters of all police forces in the
UK are made up of police officers.
The job of a police officer is challenging and diverse, it
offers a unique experience in dealing with challenging and
difficult situations on a daily basis. Although the job is one of
the most challenging, it provides excellent rewards as well as
plenty of opportunities for career development.
No day is the same as a police officer. The job offers a huge
variety in day to day activities from conducting patrol duties on
foot, by car and bicycle, to responding to calls and requests from
the public, to giving evidence in court and at other hearings plus
much much more.
Police officers work with the local communities to reduce crime
and make communities feel safe. It is the police officer who is
invariably first on the scene - whether it be a road traffic
accident, burglary or violent crime.
They have to make the first - and often vital decisions and need
to be equipped with a whole range of skills to deal appropriately
with all sections of society.
Suffolk Police’s recruitment strategy is simple – we are after
the best quality recruits to join one of the top performing police
forces in the country.
In return we will offer you a varied and interesting policing
career that covers both rural and urban areas within the
county.
