Suffolk Constabulary's Eastern Area covers Suffolk's
largest town - Ipswich. It also covers the coastal strip of
the county from the busy seaside resort of Lowestoft in the north
to Felixstowe - home to one of Europe's largest container ports -
in the south. The area extends inland to embrace part of the
Waveney Valley and takes in a number of rural towns including
Beccles, Bungay, Saxmundham and Framlingham. Eastern Area is
effectively bisected by one of the county's busiest routes - the
A12 to London; the area has its own traffic unit, based at the
Eastern Area Headquarters at Halesworth. Halesworth police station
has undergone a 1.35 million transformation and is home to a
fully-integrated, modern scientific services unit.
