Suffolk Police Constable Dave Solomon will be undertaking an unusual commute to work on Friday 20 November all in aid of Children in Need.

Dave, a Driving and Motorcycling Instructor, who usually commutes on a traditional two-wheeled bicycle, has pledged to travel by unicycle on his 3.75-mile journey from home to Suffolk Police Headquarters, Martlesham Heath.

Dave’s journey will take him along Broadlands Way Rushmere, Penzance Road, Bell Lane and the A1214 cycle path through Kesgrave. Fellow Driver Training Instructors, Colin Teager, Graeme Read and Gary Pooley, along with Area Training Officer, Sgt Caroline Brinkley will be escorting Dave along his route armed with collection buckets.

It is anticipated that Dave and his entourage will arrive at Police Headquarters at around 8:30am, where colleagues will greet him by celebrating his successful journey and donating to this great cause.

This is a tough challenge for Dave, who is only eleven months on from major knee surgery and who was a complete novice when first riding a unicycle in August this year. He says, “A unicycle is a very challenging beast to learn to ride. I have also needed to develop sufficient stamina to be able to pedal, what is in unicycling terms, an immense distance.”

If you should see Dave on his journey all he asks is that you cheer him on and generously donate to Children in Need 2009.
