Kesgrave Safer Neighbourhood
Team (SNT) are assisting a group of adults with learning
disabilities from the Rushmere Community Resource Unit on Humber
Doucy Lane to litter pick the Rushmere Common in Rushmere St
Andrews.
The day of action comes as Suffolk Constabulary and all of
Suffolk’s councils sign up to support BBC Radio Suffolk’s ‘Don’t Be
A Tosser’ campaign, which is tackling issues of litter, graffiti
and fly tipping countywide.
Kesgrave Town Council is providing the litter picking poles and
black sacks and Rushmere Golf Club will be disposing of the
rubbish.
Police Community Support Officer Glynn Bown from Kesgrave SNT says,
"Keeping the community clean and tidy encourages people to do the
same. It’s not okay to drop litter as it endangers wildlife, is
unsafe and unhygienic. The Rushmere Common is an area that is
intended for people to use and for children to play on.
"It is great to see local groups from the area helping to make
Suffolk a better place to live and work in. This project was
organised to give adults with learning disabilities an opportunity
to make a difference and be recognised by the local community. It
is hoped this event will encourage regular conservation projects to
be formed around the area and bring together different members of
the community to support each other."
The litter pick is due to take place on Friday
5th
March.
