Terrorism - Information and Advice

Suffolk is a safe place to live and work - we want to keep it that way. The security and well being of our communities is a priority for Suffolk Constabulary.

Counter Terrorism Security Adviser

Suffolk Constabulary, together with police forces throughout the United Kingdom, are better trained and equipped than ever to combat the threat of international and domestic terrorism. As part of the ongoing counter terrorism strategy, the Constabulary has dedicated Counter Terrorism Security Advisers (CTSAs).

The role of these advisers is to provide protective and counter terrorism security advice to support businesses in the following areas:

Risk assessments and vulnerability surveys of crowded places
Physical security measures
Bomb threat response
Mail handling procedures
Business continuity and contingency planning
Transportation of dangerous goods
Secure storage of pathogens, toxins and radiological materials chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear protective security.

The CTSA’s can also provide awareness training, free of charge, to individual companies or groups of businesses on subjects such as hostile reconnaissance, and preparedness for dealing with and recovering from a terrorist attack.

Project Argus is a nationally recognised counter terrorism seminar during which delegates are taken through a simulated attack and the issues raised from it. It promotes discussion and interaction during which the most recent advice is delivered by the facilitator. Project Argus is suitable for all sectors within business and industry including retail, night time economy, major events including large sporting events, as well as the architecture and planning sectors.

For further information on Project Argus please email ctsa@suffolk.pnn.police.uk or visit www.nactso.gov.uk/argus.php - opens in a new window.

The role of the public

The threat to the UK from terrorism is constantly monitored by Suffolk Constabulary and other agencies.

This allows us to regularly assess the security measures, which are in place and review the policing response to ensure we meet the threat appropriately. The terrorist threat remains real and there is no room for complacency. The public should remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times. If something strikes you as suspicious and out of place then trust your instincts and call the police.

Terrorists have to live somewhere. They store their equipment and materials somewhere. They need vehicles. They have people who help them - and these people might come and go at strange times of the day and night. They may make unusual financial transactions or use false documents to hide their real identities. They may be behaving differently to how you've known them to behave in the past.

If you have suspicions about somebody's activities or behaviour, or if you have any information that might be relevant, let the police decide if the information you have is important. What might seem insignificant on its own could actually provide a vital link in a wider investigation.

If you consider anything to be suspicious or connected with terrorism you can contact the following:

Suffolk Constabulary on 01473 613500
Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321.

If you have information that requires an urgent and immediate police response always call 999.

You can also give non-urgent information that may assist police investigations online by using our 'tell the police' service - this opens in a new window.
