Hate Crime causes great distress
to its victims and the wider community.
This form of crime may be motivated by prejudice against an
individual’s sexual orientation, sex, religion, race or
disability.
Examples of hate crime may include: verbal abuse, property
damage, violence, threats, offensive messages or other
harassment.
Suffolk Constabulary takes this type of crime very seriously and is
committed to tackling this to make our communities safer.
Its policy is to record, and investigate hate crime, and give high
priority to the investigation of these incidents.
Full recognition is given to the fact that individual incidents,
which may appear minor in nature to some, are far more serious when
part of a pattern of behaviour directed at members of a minority
group.
The Constabulary uses a problem
solving approach, seeking long-term solutions and using all the
benefits of inter-agency and partnership working.
People who witness or are the
victim of hate crime are encouraged to report the incident to the
police as soon as possible.
